With a generous grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, through the Friends of the San Juans, Frog Marine has been given the opportunity to inspect and upgrade (if needed) your mooring at no cost to you. To qualify for this program you would:
1. Be in an area with eel grass beds.
2. Reply to this email that you want to apply. If you replied to last email, no need to again. We got you!
3. Be on Frog Marine’s Annual Service Plan.
Don’t know if your mooring is in an eel grass area? Not sure if you’re on our Annual Service Plan? Simply apply and Frog Marine will figure it out!
Please apply by emailing Frog Marine by Friday, February 21st. Full funding is secured for the first 100 upgrades and it must be used in 2025.
Note: Your boat can be on the mooring while we work.
Midline Floats improve
the seafloor environment of the Salish Sea
and are required for all new mooring installations.
Midline floats ensure that the line between the mooring anchor and the surface buoy does not drag and scour the bottom during low tides or extreme current conditions.
They are a simple way to protect sensitive eelgrass and other aquatic vegetation like understory kelp. These environments provide important habitat for shellfish, crabs, herring, juvenile salmon, rock fish and other young bottom fish, which are part of an intricate web of life—including our Orcas!— in the Salish Sea.
Midline floats also keep the mooring line from dragging across rocks and so increase the integrity and lifespan of the line and so your entire mooring system.
